shark

awareness poster

Shark finning is the practice of hacking the fins off a shark and throwing its body - dead or alive - back into the sea. This practice claimes the lives of millions of sharks each year and is still pushing many previously common species of sharks to the brink of extinction. Why is there such a demand for shark fins? Because of shark fin soup, an Asian delicacy which had become extremely popular in recent years.

This project is an awareness poster for shark finning, designed for the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. Sea Shepherd’s crew directly intervenes to prevent illegal fishing and protect marine wildlife. A shark fin above the water is usually seen as a symbol of danger. A knife blade, which resembles a shark fin, is stabbing into the waves, indiscriminately killing sharks.
